From the material that flour came in! She snuck a comic book or a tube of lipstick in with the groceries so my dad didn’t know! When my dad worked the 3 to 11 p.m. shift and was gone in the evenings, she’d play hymns on the piano and my brothers and I would sing along. I wrote a book of our (3 bros & me) memories of her for Christmas in 1997 while she was in Asst. Living after some strokes. I lived in Ohio at the time and she told me she cried all day. I had it delivered over night to get there in time because I was up all night composing it. She passed in 2006 at age 86. I get to say hello to both my parents on the way to church every Sunday. I will be buried next to them when I pass.

So sweet – all the attributes you acknowledge.
My grandma was a Godsend and offered a wonderful escape where we got to watch TV, eat sugar, and then she treated us to fun events: trips to LA’s Bullock’s Wilshire’s Tea Room, fancy two story theater to see “The Sound of Music” and more. It was always special to stay with her :-)
