Fearful thoughts….

Do you ever have fearful thoughts? I do! Sometimes they are minor ones: Will I get to my destination on time? Do I have enough ingredients to make something in the kitchen? Or major thoughts: Will my very ill friend make it? Will I be able to go on if I lose someone close to me? Am I as sick as I think I might be? Will my precious child/grandchild be all right?

Go to the Psalms..

When I become uneasy and afraid, I always go to the Psalms. They pick you up when you’re down. They reflect sorrow when you are grieving. They bring joy when you need it. They bring a song to your lips.

Fearful thoughts…

Today, I asked God to give me something to give back to you. He gave me the verse above. Sometimes there is no hope, save God. We’re at our depths of grief and don’t think we’ll ever experience joy again. Or, we’re fearful, because the doctor told us there’s some difficult treatment ahead that will not be comfortable. Foreboding thoughts crowd our mind because we’ve already experienced loss–will it happen again? Or our child or close loved one is no longer nearby  and we’re not sure if they ever will be again.

Hope..

When those thoughts crowd my mind–and with honesty, they do–I turn to the Psalms. Sometimes my favorite ones. Other times, I just thumb through and read. Often, it’s a devotional someone else has written.

For you…

This is for you, because where else is there hope, if not in God?
