We’ve been at the beach this past week. It has been good to watch the majestic and powerful Pacific Ocean as it crashes into the rocks along the coastline. I still wonder how the waves stop where they do—always.

We enjoyed a short drive to the Sea Lion Caves and in the distance is Cape Heceta, the most photographed lighthouse on the Pacific coast. You can understand why.

When you have a puppy, you must walk him no matter what. So we walked Rudy along the shore. He loved the brisk wind and salty air and we did too.

One morning while reading, Jim said, “I hope on December 31, we can review our year, and decide what God might want for us next year.” I agreed with him and that’s on our to-do list for today. To review. Reflect. And plan.

The past month, I’ve been reading a devotional for Advent. It has asked some questions that I’ve been pondering. Yesterday’s question is one I’m thinking about and would like to pose to you: “How do you think God would respond if you prayed to love what he loves?”

I think He would be pleased. And I believe He would show us.

Hans Christian Andersen wrote:

Let us with childlike heart and mind

seek now the Son of God to find.

So on the eve of 2022, we don’t know what’s in the future, but we can seek to know what God loves. I read fairly recently in my reading of the Old Testament this:

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.

And what does the LORD require of you?

To act justly and to love mercy

And to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:9 NIV).

Will you join me in asking God to love what he loves? As we reflect on the past and determine as much as we can—because we don’t know what’s around the next corner—I plan to ask Him to show me what He loves. Let’s review, reflect, and ask the Father.
