Tick tock
What is your time?
All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us. Gandolf~”Fellowship of the Rings” J.R.R. Tolkein.
I am very aware of the clock ticking away in my life. Since my first husband died, I knew one day my life on earth would end. Yet, we are eternal beings and this life is not the end.
What do you believe? I’ve been studying with a group of women a book called Who is Jesus? It clearly presents some important facts:
Jesus as the Son of God, who is God. He always was–In the beginning the Word [Word means Jesus] already existed…So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.
Jesus is the one who gives us salvation through him: Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved.
Jesus promises eternal life to those who believe: Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.
So the choice is clear to me. There is one way to God, the Creator of the world, to have eternal life and that is belief in Jesus Christ.
What is your choice?
With our grandson, we watched the three hour movie, The Fellowship of the Rings. I’ve seen it before, but I’ve forgotten a lot of it. This time I was struck by the quote by Gandolf, the wizard, when he said numerous times, All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.
The movie and book are fantasies. I don’t believe in wizards or rings or hobbits, but I do believe we are given a certain amount of time to live.
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed. Psalm 139: 16
I also believe that the quote “All we have to decide is what to do with the time given us” is accurate. What do you think?
Last week we attended two funerals in one day. There were some uncanny resemblances to both of them, but also some differences.
Both men were born the same year.
Both had loving families who mourned the loss of their father and grandfather. There were many friends and acquaintances present.
Both men were loved and it was evident in the comments people made. They both were kind and generous. Excellent fathers and grandfathers. Loving husbands.
But there were some distinct differences.
One life professed that he had a personal relationship with Christ and was in heaven now.
The other believed there were many ways to God. Through Buddha, the Hindu faith, the Muslim faith, or the Christian faith.
It’s up to each individual as to who or what we believe. A free will in what to believe. What we are to do with the time given us. A free will to believe in one God, or many.
What do you believe? I don’t think I have to tell you that it is an important decision.
I believe there is one God, who is Christ Jesus. There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
