It was my first climb up Mt. Hood. It was hard. More difficult than I ever imagined. We'd purchased the equipment we needed to make the climb. Walked through the aisles at Andy & Bax, purveyor of used outdoor equipment to save money. I resisted buying a new backpack and told my husband a borrowed pack would be fine.

A long time ago, I would do a lot of hiking and mountain climbing with my husband Bill. We also would climb rocks--big ones--for "fun." He enjoyed that much more than I did but one climb I'll never forget was one clear, spring day more than twenty years ago now.
What an assurance we've been given. Jesus is always present with us through the Holy Spirit.
Grief is hard. There is a terrible weight in our souls that won't go away. The tears don't stop. We are miserable just as those disciples and followers of Jesus must have been that Friday that is called Good Friday.
