I’m celebrating a birthday tomorrow. I love birthdays and always looked forward to them in my youth. Now, though, not so much. Oh I like opening a gift from a loved one. A card. I am grateful for the life God has given me, good health, a wonderful family. I just don’t like the numbers getting bigger and I’m less likely to talk about how old I really am. I’m chagrined when I read in a novel someone being described as “older” when in their seventies. Yikes—that’s me!

My eyes perk up when I read about “the old”, or “aged” or “gray hairs” in the Bible. Usually, they’re full of promise. I like what the Psalms and Proverbs says.

Even in old age they will still produce fruit;
they will remain vital and green.
Psalm 92:14
The glory of the young is their strength;
    the gray hair of experience is the splendor of the old.
Proverbs 20:29

So, instead of bemoaning the fact that I’m another year older, I’ll enjoy it that I still produce fruit and enjoy the gray hair of experience–the splendor of the old. What else can I do? The alternative is to not grow older, and I’m not ready for that. So, I’ll enjoy tomorrow. Open presents, cards, and share a special meal with family.

I like the next part of the passage in Psalms 92,

The LORD is just!

He is my rock!

There is nothing but goodness in him!

I took this photo in Colorado Springs last September where the rocks are simply stupendous.

He is my rock!

Enjoy this day and every day God has given you. I will too.
