God’s way is perfect.
All the Lord’s promises prove true.
He is a shield for all who look to him for protection (2 Samuel 22:31).
It has been a week of sleepless nights. Hopeful doctor office calls to help with the pain. Peace in the night.
Through all of the uncertainty, we found–and continue to find–hope in God. This morning I read in 2 Samuel 22. In the Bible reading, I was instructed to list all of the verbs of what God does. Here are a few.
God:
saves me
hears me
opens heaven–comes down
shot arrows–scatter enemies
rescues me
supports me
leads me to safety
rewards me for doing right
restores
lights darkness
strengthens
Now I ask you to apply some of those verbs to your situation today. I love this hymn published in 1907:
He Will Hold me Fast:
VERSE 1
When I fear my faith will fail,
Christ will hold me fast;
When the tempter would prevail,
He will hold me fast.
I could never keep my hold
Through life’s fearful path;
For my love is often cold;
He must hold me fast.REFRAIN
He will hold me fast,
He will hold me fast;
For my Savior loves me so,
He will hold me fast.VERSE 2
Those He saves are His delight,
Christ will hold me fast;
Precious in His holy sight,
He will hold me fast.
He’ll not let my soul be lost;
His promises shall last;
Bought by Him at such a cost,
He will hold me fast.VERSE 3
For my life He bled and died,
Christ will hold me fast;
Justice has been satisfied;
He will hold me fast.
Raised with Him to endless life,
He will hold me fast
‘Till our faith is turned to sight
When He comes at last! (Ada Habershon, 1861-1918).
We don’t know the outcome of Jim’s pain, that I wrote about last week, but are finding out more. We have seen God work through circumstances thought impossible. Immediate care–after we returned home from our camping trip. A procedure that usually takes six weeks to take place was performed. An MRI that one doctor said the insurance company would not approve, yet in one day, they called us to come in the next day. Today we find out the results. Whatever they are, I am encouraged by the words to the above hymn. I hope you are too.He will hold me fast. He will hold you fast, too.

I love the hymn “He Will Hold Me Fast!” I had no idea that it was written in 1907!! It wasn’t in the hymnals that I grew up on, so I assumed it was more recent.
I will continue to pray for you and Jim as you hold fast to your Savior who is holding you fast!
I think the melody was different, but I love the words and the newer version of the song. Thank you for your prayers and He will hold me fast. Thank you!
I did listen to the music. Loved the words and the musical rendition.
I thought you’d like it! Love, Shirley
I continue to pray for both of you! Hugs, Deb
Appreciate your prayers! Thank you!
Dear Shirley, I listen to the song it was amazing! What an encouragement to remember those words. I shared them with my Tuesday morning. Bible study too. Thank you for your ministry. Praying for you and Jim. God bless you as you hang onto our savior.
Ah, thank you for writing and I’m so glad you were encouraged! That song always resonates with me and I was surprised it was written more than 100 years ago! Bless you and hang on, too! Love, Shirley
