It was after midnight when the sound of the phone interrupted my sleep. My husband was dying and we needed to get to the ICU quickly. I’m so grateful I was there at his side along with our two children when Bill entered eternity. At 3:00 am, they told us he was gone. Just like that. We woodenly put our coats on and drove home. There was nothing to do but go to bed for a few hours. I didn’t think I’d be able to sleep, but I did. I was awakened by robins singing outside my window. My first thought was, the robins are back! And then I remembered my great loss. But the Spirit of God was with me through the loss. He comforted me when no one else could. He sent the sound of the bird to remind me He was there, too.

I wonder what Mary Magdalene thought when she came to the place where Jesus had been laid in the tomb. She must have been so sad. She had no hope. But then. She heard a sound. The sound of her Master, saying her name,  “Mary.” Then she knew. He was alive as he had said he would be!

What a celebration we had last weekend. But do we really think about it much after Resurrection Sunday? Perhaps not enough.

I was at the place where Jesus was placed in the tomb. It was a beautiful garden. I’m sure when Mary visited the tomb she heard robins singing just as I did that morning nineteen years ago.

Since that morning so long ago now, the robin reminded me there was life. I can’t explain it better than that. It gave me hope in a dark time, just as the dark time the followers of Jesus experienced those days while Jesus was in the tomb. But at the perfect time, he rose from the dead! Allelujah!

When Jesus ascended into heaven forty days later, he gave us the Holy Spirit to be present with us always. The Spirit was with me in my darkest hours. He’s there for you, too.

“Lord, thank you for the gift of nature that reminds us of life and your creation. Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice that you did for us, by taking our sins on the cross. You, the perfect sacrifice. Thank you for proving you were God by rising from the dead. And when we believe, the Holy Spirit. Thank you, Jesus. Amen”

Below is a song celebrating our Awesome God. Awesome. Don’t you think there was great celebration that morning in heaven when Jesus rose from the dead? Perhaps it was like this.
