I’ve been working on a pamphlet about myself for a conference I’ll be attending in a couple of weeks. When I write about myself–who I am, what I’ve done, I feel like I’m bragging. I’ve been doing some soul searching about what to say and what might draw people to my books and why they should want to read anything I’ve written.
While I was reading this morning, I wrote down a verse from Ephesians that reminded me of who I am–and who I belong to.
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ (Ephesians 3:17-18 NIV).
I don’t think we as Christians realize how strong and powerful the love of Jesus has for us! We just go about our days, knowing we’re Christians and perhaps, take for granted the powerful love He has for us. After all, He gave His life for us! Sometimes I take Jesus for granted.
I think my new puppy, Rudy is a good example of implicit trust and love. As long as someone is near–Jim or me, he is happy and contented. He is growing to trust us. This little ball of black wavy fur, button brown eyes, a face that is framed with tan markings and makes him look like he’s wearing a a mask!
Rudy trusts us, his owners, to take care of his needs. We take him outside to “do his business,” we feed him frequently. We play with him, take him for walks. He trusts us to take care of him. He takes us for granted. He has no idea of what we paid for him. How much it costs for his care. And it doesn’t matter to him. He just knows he loves and is loved–and accepts it.
I may not always realize how deep and wide and high the love of Jesus has for me. But that doesn’t mean He will stop loving me because of that.
Perhaps on the pamphlet I’m working on, I can just say I am loved by God and leave it at that…
Just as Rudy accepts our love completely. I can accept the love of Christ. How about you? Put yourself in that verse and absorb that the words:
how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.
That’s for me. For you. Take it!
