All week, we’ve been anticipating an extreme cold front with lots of snow and cold temperatures. Jim has been studiously watching weather patterns and we’ve been promised “the worst snow fall since 2008”. We’ve been waiting. Yesterday’s late afternoon brought a promise of the white stuff. Tiny flakes, so small you had to squint to see for sure if they were really there, teasing us from the gray skies. The wind picked up as is its pattern where we live, close to the entrance of the Gorge, where winds can blow up to 100 miles per hour.

“It’s coming,” the weather person pronounced.

Early this morning, we woke up to cold temperatures and about an inch of snow. Not the “five or so inches” we were hoping for. There’s the promise is of more to come.

Those of you who read my blog from other parts of the United States where cold temps and snow are common are most likely laughing at our PNW hopes and dreams of snow.

There is a place that we can find a sure promise. It isn’t in the weather forecast. The news of the day. What the politicians promote. It is the Word of God. There we can be assured of truth.

On my wall is a framed Bible verse that always gives me assurance.

I will never leave you; never will I forsake you…Hebrews 13:5

Never is a strong word. God is a personal God, not some distant being far away from us. In the Psalms He says,

As for me, I am poor and needy,

but the Lord is thinking about me right now. Ps. 40:17

Those are only two of the many places in this rich book God has given us that promise His presence. I can tell you, it has been true for me. It can be for you too.

I’m hoping and dreaming of more snow. It’s coming.
