Every morning, Jim and I enjoy coffee together. We sit and enjoy the relaxing time before the day begins. We always begin with our readings in the Bible for the day, discuss what we read and then we pray.

This week we’ve been enjoying perfect fall weather. Brisk mornings. Sapphire blue skies. Mild temperatures, not hot, not cold. And only this time of the year, when the sun comes through, it touches an arrangement of flowers on a coffee table. Every morning this week, the sun gleamed on this arrangement. If I didn’t pay attention, it would vanish and the flower would be in darkness again.

Here’s a broader view:

Moments later, the view of the beautiful dahlia with the sun shining on it perfectly, was gone. Never to return until the next day.

That’s kind of like our lives. There are beautiful moments–and not-so-beautiful moments where we glimpse beauty that is there for only a short time.

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes (James 4:14 NIV).

I challenge you to treasure those mini moments in your day.

Sometimes there are no words to express the wonder of a spot of sun, shining on flowers. Instead, it’s just good to reflect on the words of the poet David where he says:

I will meditate on your wonderful works.
They tell of the power of your awesome works—
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness (Psalms 145: 5-7).

So this morning as you begin your day, perhaps you, like me are unable to express the wonder of God and His creation that we enjoy every day–even though our lives are only a blip in eternity. Treasure the moments given to you. Even the simple spot of sun on a flower that lasts only a moment.
