6 Five sparrows are sold for only two pennies, and God does not forget any of them. 7 But God even knows how many hairs you have on your head. Don’t be afraid. You are worth much more than many sparrows. (Luke 12:6-7)
It was one of those tossing and turning kind of nights for me. All kinds of thoughts: I am going to be so tired tomorrow.I’ve simply got to get to sleep–I’m getting up early. Go to sleep! I sternly tell myself.
Of course, more of those kind of niggling thoughts invaded my brain. I read one of the many books at my bedside and finally, when my eyes were too tired to read, I prayed, I quoted Bible verses, and sang hymns in my head.
With a mug of hot coffee this morning, I began my daily reading of the gospel of Luke. I’ve been reading a chapter a day and will conclude on Christmas Eve. Interesting the following verses caught my attention: Luke 12:22-29:
22 Jesus said to his followers, “So I tell you, don’t worry about the food you need to live, or about the clothes you need for your body. 23 Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothes. 24 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest, they don’t have storerooms or barns, but God feeds them. And you are worth much more than birds. 25 You cannot add any time to your life by worrying about it. 26 If you cannot do even the little things, then why worry about the big things? 27 Consider how the lilies grow; they don’t work or make clothes for themselves. But I tell you that even Solomon with his riches was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers. 28 God clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today but tomorrow is thrown into the fire. So how much more will God clothe you? Don’t have so little faith! 29 Don’t always think about what you will eat or what you will drink, and don’t keep worrying.
It has been good to slowly read about Jesus and what he said.
I have a friend who often goes on bird watching expeditions in the southwest part of our nation. I hope you enjoy her photos:
