The flowers are springing up,
the season of singing birds has come, (Song of Solomon 2:12)

I think Spring is my favorite season. The explosion of color in the flowers and the variety is stunning right now. The birds are busy making their nests, courting each other. At nightfall, they are calling and in the early morning, too.

Each day as I walk, I find flowers to admire. Last week it was the spicy smelling Wisteria.

The lacy Iris.

One day this week I came across a Dogwood. The blooms are interesting as is the legend about the bloom.

Its four large petals represent the cross he died upon, and each petal displays four red-tinged notches that are said to represent four nail holes. And in the center of each flower is a green cluster that is symbolic of Jesus’ crown of thorns.

I’m amazed at creation and how it displays God’s handiwork. I see a Master Creator in the blooms of Spring.  J.I. Packer said: “Creation is God’s first missionary. The human heart can know God through the handiwork of nature.” Do you think that’s true?

I hope this explosion of color lifts your heart today. We live in an amazing creation. Look closely today at a flower. Take a whiff and enjoy its fragrance. I hope you can know God through his handiwork.

Yesterday my daughter Erika and I, ventured out to a local nursery. This Mother’s Day her present for me was to shop for some flowers to add to my flower beds. She promised to help me plant them. We strolled through the shop and I carefully made my selections. As we checked out, I asked the clerk if they were as busy as normal because of the lockdown of many businesses. She said, “We’ve been busier than ever this year!” We decided it was because people had more time on their hands and took the time to plant this spring.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of not feeling free to move about like normal. I miss the track meets and softball games I would have attended to cheer on my grands. I miss going to church. I miss hugging and seeing friends. Yes, we have computer meetings but it isn’t the same. I’m so glad our Creator didn’t shut down Spring. It gives me hope that we will return to perhaps not the same—but an appreciation of freedoms to move about. To worship with others.

The flowers are still freely blooming. They aren’t stopped by this terrible virus. The birds act unaware too. They are busy building, mating, living. Let’s enjoy nature that is right outside our door. Some of you are not free to leave. I pray you enjoy these beautiful blooms that are right outside my door. I pray this virus will soon pass. May you see God’s handiwork today–if only outside your window.
