Finish
I was challenged to choose a word that would define this year 2019 for me. I chose “Finish”. What does that mean for me? I plan to finish, complete my third book. I’ll be giving you some excerpts from time to time this year. Here’s a brief one:
Shirley and Jim came from long and enduring marriages and found marriage to be fulfilling. They discovered that in spite of their love for each other, they still experienced challenges before their wedding took place.
Today’s blog is not about the book, however, but about finishing something. Could this year be the one you finish something? Perhaps it’s something you haven’t yet started, but want to complete. Are you using your time the way you think you should?
Perhaps it’s a vacation you’ve dreamed of and this is the year to do it.
Perhaps you want to spend more time with a friend or family member.
Perhaps you want to spend more time with a friend or family member. I’m so proud of Jim, who is his sister’s guardian. He visits her every week in the home she lives in. Mary is developmentally and physically disabled. Each week Jim stops by and they read her children’s Bible together–she does read–and at the close of their visit, Jim coaches Mary in a prayer. She loves Jim and is so delighted when he visits–even only a few minutes each week. Is there someone who needs your time–even briefly–during your week?
Exercise?
How about more exercise? Most days, you’ll see me walking my three mile excursion in my neighborhood. I enjoy the flowers, birds, trees, and lovely homes I pass. One morning this week, I walked more slowly because it was frosty and I’m more careful these days–no broken bones for me!
Shakespeare says……
I’m reading a devotional this year that uses Shakespeare quotes and I really liked this one:
What do you need to complete/finish?
Perhaps you have something you’ve always wanted to do or need to finish this year.
- certification or completion of a degree
- more time spent with family
- an extravagant (you only live once!) vacation
- a book-that’s me!
- more time studying the Bible
- join a book club
- join a gym, or just get out and walk!
What is your word?
I could go on and on with that list. Instead, you fill in the blank. What is your word for this year? Message me–come on–scroll down and take the time to comment.
As always you have provoked some reflection. Good questions here! I’m tempted to use your word “finish”. I have knitting & sewing projects I should finish… There are other projects too.
Maybe I should use “start”. Start getting these things done. There’s also “act”. Act on the issues, problems, projects that are important or concerning to me.
I have to STOP letting “save” have so much room in my life. While I feel that what I save is important, or somehow precious, much is neither. I’ve so much ephemera that my sentimental and nostalgic self holds on to …
But I’m not at all sure how to part with, anything.
Perhaps I could be comfortable with “begin”.
Begin each day doing what I can towards my goal of finishing my knitting, sorting out detritus, attacking issues of concern.
“In the beginning….”
I must start somewhere. There can be no FINISH if I remain paralyzed at the size of the projects! So,today, this day of Epiphany, I shall BEGIN. I shall begin the tasks that have eluded me. Perhaps this wont result in everything being finished but “well begun is half done” so I will make progress! Next year will keep & I shall learn its word in due time. So, until 2020 I shall concentrate on 2019 and BEGIN to act on my plans, my ideas qnd my projects.
Thank you.
Blessings upon you my dear friend
I’ll keep you accountable dear friend! Good points that many can relate to!
