We have nearly completed three weeks on the road, enjoying amazing scenery, meeting interesting people, and renewing our relationships with family and friends along our journey.
We thank God daily for our relationship.
We said our goodbyes to our kids in Iowa on Monday and began our journey north. First, though, we had a stop to make. This Monday, September 4, was the 4th anniversary of our first date. It was on this day, Jim and I met for coffee and the date extended for more than two hours. I felt giddy as I drove home and wondered if this guy might be the one. We thank God daily for our relationship and had to toast those four years with a cup of coffee.
We drove through the farmlands of Iowa and Illinois, on into Wisconsin where there are lush farms complete with large barns and grain silos. We stopped in Green Bay. “Let’s see if we can find Lambeau Field!” Jim exclaimed. As we drove into the relatively small community of Green Bay, there was the exit: Lambeau Field. Of course we stopped, took photos, and found there was a tour of the facility. Next morning, first thing, we purchased tickets for a tour of the amazing stadium.
After the tour, we continued north and east to beautiful Michigan.
I busily snapped photos in the RV as Jim drove. Here are a few of the sights. We drove alongside Lake Michigan for miles and it reminded me of our coastline in Oregon and Washington. Our country is so extravagantly beautiful and varied. I never grow tired of watching the scenery go by my window. I’m grateful for the opportunity of taking this trip.
We traveled north to Mackinaw City, Michigan, camping nearby Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. I’ll post photos of our stay in this area.
We took a ferry to Mackinac Island. Only horse-drawn carriages and bicycles are allowed except for one firetruck and ambulance. All deliveries are done by a drayage–freight wagons pulled by strong horses. We took a carriage tour of the island. Be sure to click on the video and enjoy the ride..
After our tour of the island, we continued our drive toward New York State, but first, we drove through a bit of Canada.
All through Michigan, we enjoyed lovely farmlands, churches dotting the green landscape and small towns. At last, we entered New York State. It’s difficult in a sense that we experienced more eye popping sights. Yes. Niagara Falls. Enjoy the massive falls. They are immense!
While the scenery along the way has been astounding, our relationships were by far the most important.
As we talked about our week, we spoke of the highlights. Yes, we visited man made places: Lambeau Stadium, beautiful farms, bridges. We were enjoyed natural sights and nature. We decided most meaningful were not the sights, but the people. People we loved. We treasured the worship service where my stepson Greg is pastor, getting to know our youngest grandchildren, and finally, visiting with cousins along Lake Ontario in their cozy home in New York State. While the scenery along the way has been astounding, our relationships were by far the most important.
And now, it’s on to Vermont and beyond, where we will meet old friends. and meet new ones, too. I’m excited and hope you’ll continue with me on our journey!
What a wonderful trip you are having! You are passing over some of the same area’s where I was a year ago! Niagara Falls is breath taking!
I remember reading your posts on FB. We’re having such a good time! God is good!
Glad you enjoyed it.
