I absolutely love fall. I am convinced it is the most colorful season. Yesterday, I took this shot.

In our area of the world, this November has been beautiful. Clear, crisp, blue-skied days, melting into a peach-pink sunset, that seems abruptly early with the time change.

The older I get, the more I enjoy the simple things of life. How about you? Here’s another beautiful shot along my walk this week.

As I was thinking about the simple beauty God has gifted us with, I also thought about his goodness to me individually. Usually a song comes to mind and today, it was this one written by an Irish woman, Jean S. Pigott (don’t you love that last name?). I combined two phrases from two different verses:

Jesus, I am resting, resting,

In the joy of what Thou art;

I am finding out the greatness

Of Thy loving heart.

Satisfies its deepest longing,

Meets, supplies of every need,

Compasseth me round with blessings:

Thine is love indeed!

Jean S. Pigott, 1845-1882, County Kildare, Ireland.

As this Friday that brings Thanksgiving week upon us, consider what Miss Pigott wrote. And enjoy the simple rest and beauty in the day.

There is much sadness in the world. Much stress and discord in our nation. Much grief and loss, too. Some of you are experiencing deep grief and sorrow. You’ve lost in death your life’s partner and you’re facing this Thanksgiving alone. Perhaps its a sibling, a child, a best friend. If you are, I hope the words above will soothe your heart. Let them sink deep into your soul. He is there. Loves you and knows your pain. He understands better than anyone on earth.

Take in the simple beauty of your world. The rest Jesus promises.
