Our dog Rudy looks up to us for all of his needs. He will stand by his food and water dish and will just look at me if they are empty. He knows I will fill them. He waits for us to take him on his daily walks. He has his treat times down to a “T”.

Rudy implicitly trusts in us to provide for him.

Today, I was asked in a devotional,  “What are your fears?” I listed them. Then I was asked, “What weakness are you experiencing?” I wrote some things down. Finally, “What help do you need?” Once more I wrote a sentence.

Then the devotional directed me to different passages of Scripture. Here’s what I read:

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you!
Don’t be frightened, for I am your God!
I strengthen you—
yes, I help you—
yes, I uphold you with my victorious right hand! (Isaiah 41:10)

The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?
The Lord is with me; he is my helper (Psalm 118:6-7).

The past couple of months have been difficult and I’ve shared some of those hardships with you. They aren’t any different than what most of you have endured. Or will endure at some point. For the most part, I trusted in God to help me and be with me. But there were times where I’ll be honest that I had nigglings of fear, asking myself, What would I do…if?

I was blown away. Right there, after writing down my fears and weaknesses, I read what God said. He told me to not be afraid. He said I am with you. I will strengthen you. He promised to be my helper.

That’s all I needed. Every one of my fears and weaknesses were answered.

Then after being encouraged, my eyes dropped to the bottom of the page of my journal where there is a Bible passage. It said: May the Lord of peace Himself give you His peace at all times and in every (author’s emphasis) situation(2 Thess. 3:16).

This wasn’t for me exclusively. No, it’s for you, too.

Instead of worrying and fretting, we can look up to God, who says he will help and provide. Just as Rudy does with us.

What fears do you have? What weaknesses are you experiencing? What help do you need? Write them down. Then look up in your own Bible. I pray they will inspire you as they did me.

“Heavenly Father, thank you for promising us we don’t have to be afraid. We don’t have to fear being alone, because you are with us. You are our helper. I pray for those who are filled with fears and weaknesses. Help them reach out to you. The One who promises. Amen.”
