Amazing, isn’t it? That huge ship is held firmly in the ocean with currents that are strong, yet it holds the ship.
It seems there are lots of storms and currents pulling us this way and that. It could be in our marriages or other relationships. It could be at home, at work, with parents, or friends. Looking back, I have experienced difficult times–like everyone experiences. Some of those times were during grief where a loved one has died. Yet, there were even more difficult times–as in a difficult relationship. In my case, I didn’t know where to turn at times, and nearly gave up. I found grabbing on to the anchor of God’s word helped to keep me stable during the storm and strong currents of life. It gave me peace, words to speak, and always assurance of my safety in God.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11 ESV).
I often think of hymns I sang in church in my childhood. Such a treasure are those words and melody at times. The hymn below was a lusty one, usually sung during a Sunday evening service. When I sang the words as a kid, I had no idea about storms in life. Later, I understood more and that’s when the words gave me strength and comfort at just the right time.
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior!s love.
~Priscilla J. Owens, 1829-1907
Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary (Hebrews 6: 18-19 NLT).
Grab on to the anchor. It is trustworthy. It keeps you snugged up to the “trustworthy anchor for our souls.”

The song below uses the lyrics I included above, with a different melody. Let the words wash over you as you listen.
See you next week!
Always a good reminder that God has a plan for us and we will never be forsaken.
So right, Karin! Thank you! Shirley
